OPTIONS FOR TREATMENT
Treatment for fibroids can range from no treatment at all to surgery. Unless fibroids are causing excessive bleeding, discomfort or bladder problems, treatment usually isn't necessary. Uterine fibroids are growths in your uterus. Because they're typically not cancerous, you can decide whether or not you want to have them removed. You may not need surgery if your fibroids don't bother you.
Below are some reasons women consider surgery.
- Bleeding between periods
- Frequent urination
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Pain or pressure in your lower belly
- Trouble emptying your bladder
Surgery might be an option if you want to get pregnant in the future. Fibroids can occasionally increase your risk of having a miscarriage or complications during your pregnancy.
If you decide to have fibroid surgery, you have three options:
- Endometrial ablation
- Myomectomy
- Hysterectomy
